About the Item
Erhard & Söhne, founded in 1844 in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, were makers of luxury goods such as elaborate book bindings and boxes. The company was known for its exquisite metals, many of which were gold and silver plated. It patented an ingenious technique for inlaying brass in 1904. This technique was frequently applied to complement the richly-grained woods used in their famous boxes.
