Alfred Daguet, Paris, Art Nouveau Embossed Brass & Inlaid Glass Cabochons Box

About the Item

One of a kind and all hand-crafted, good size antique box by Alfred Daguet (1875-1942). Alfred Daguet was a French craftsman/metalsmith, active around the early 1900s and who specialized in repoussé copper panels applied to hinged boxes, mantel clocks, and other exquisite objects. His atelier was above Siegfried Bing's famous showroom, Maison de l'Art Nouveau, that displayed his works as well as those by Louis Comfort Tiffany and numerous other Art Nouveau artists such as Clément Massier, Eugène Gaillard and Georges de Feure. Bing was a major proponent of the Art Nouveau movement and his pavilion at the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris signified to the world the importance of this new style. So if you are looking for a truly stylish AND artistically decorative, antique box to grace your table, dresser or display cabinet then this Art Nouveau-gem could be yours to enjoy soon. The frame of this box is made of wood and the perfectly embossed 'skin' is all hand-crafted out of brass or patinated copper. Each side of this stunning box has its own beautiful decor and each has been hand-hammered onto the wooden frame with tiny brass nails. There is something about these organic patterns combined with the vibrant cobochon colors that appeals to collectors all over the world and it has made these antique boxes extra valuable. From start to finish, it must have taken weeks rather than days to first design (hand-draw) and then hand-create this truly unique box. Perfectly inlaid into the brass are some wonderful blue, green and red gemstones. The combination of the stunning color 'stones' and the various patterns in which they are placed, gives this antique box a truly artistic and also modernist look and feel. In a way Daguet, just like for example Antoni Gaudí, created his own type of Art Nouveau. This antique box also is in superb condition, it has a remarkable patina and it comes with a perfect working lock and key. No matter what you decide to use it for and no matter where you decide to have it on display, this antique box will never fail to impress. Our more than fair price for this beautiful Art Nouveau répoussé box even includes perfect packing and also free delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 5 days. No matter where you live on our beautiful planet. Maximum width x height x depth: 10.7 x 4.7 x 8.3 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).
