Abundant and always of great quality, the interior architecture of the 19th century made the decorators of this period famous. The key pieces found in almost all Napoleon III decorations are: fireplaces, mirrors, torches and chandeliers. The Second Empire is especially marked by the codes of luxury. This led to a certain recognition of the decorative arts and of the craftsmen associated with them, such as Henri-Alfred Jacquemart and Charles Christofle, known respectively for their goldsmithing and furniture sculpture. The Second Empire could be defined in one word: "Richness", a wealth of inspiration, materials, decorations, but also a mixture of styles. This style is also reflected in architectural achievements still known to the general public, such as the Haussmannian buildings, the Bon Marché or the Opéra Garnier. However, Napoleon III's furniture is inspired by certain elements of the Renaissance, Louis XV and Louis XVI periods. The predominant materials are: wood (walnut, mahogany, rosewood, etc.), wood veneer, gilded bronze, copper and also papier-mâché (for the structures of chairs and pedestal tables).
