Late 19th-early 20th century Ottoman Empire Grand Scale Silver Jewelry Casket. Velvet lining; with a presentation case. 900 standard silver guarantee hallmark, SK mark unidentified, but found on silver repousse tray, boxes, etc. Likely pre-1906. Reeds of repousse roses alternate with undecorated reeds/gadroons, covering the entire body. Top band & base band of leaves. Silver lock works with original key. Floral ring handles. 65.75 troy oz. Presentation case hinges & latch as found. Provenance: William R. Polk, American foreign policy advisor, author & expert. Professor of Middle Eastern history & politics, Harvard. Appointed by President Kennedy to State Department & Policy Planning Council focused on Middle East & North Africa. Gift of the President of Turkey. Cards & note from ex-wife accompanies the casket.
