Max Le Verrier French Art Deco Bronze Jewelry Box

About the Item

This Max Le Verrier bronze makes a wonderful small jewelry box or use it as a desk accessory for holding paper clips or coins, etc... It is very unique and from the wonderful Art Deco period. Stamped inside "Gardiens du Temple". One of a series of bronze boxes sculpted and cast by Max Le Verrier, this example has an intentional "antiqued" appearance, inspired by ancient Greek coinage. Le Verrier opened his own studio in 1919 and won a medal at the famed 1925 Exposition in Paris that gave "Art Deco" its name. Later, he established a foundry that cast bronze sculptures for Pierre Le Faguays and Marcel Bourain, among others. Although Le Verrier experimented with other alloys, he continued to create pieces in bronze as well. Wonderful craftsmanship.
