About the Item
A set of two beautiful jewelry boxes with glass lids made of opal glass. This type of jewelry box was mainly made in France, Italy and earlier in Bohemia. They were made from the early 19th century to the mid 20th century. However, the heyday of opal boxes was around 1850. Opal glass is manufactured in Europe and is a coveted collector's item because of its semi-opaque coloring and seamless appearance. The containers are mouth-blown, mounts with gilt bronze. With so many colorful shapes, these antique beauties are great to collect and mix and match. Opal glass boxes are beautiful collector's items that also fit into a modern environment. The design of the boxes is very clear and sharp, absolutely elegant and timeless. Collecting several such objects creates a cheerful and colorful mixture.
Each casket is made from heavy opaline glass with cut edges. The trim is in good condition, it closes perfectly and is finely decorated.
The smaller box is marked "Veritable Opaline de Venise".
The dimensions given in the dimensions section refer to the larger item. The smaller one is approx. 2.88 inches high and 2.88 inches in diameter.
Sold as a set of two, like seen in the pictures.
