About the Item

The chest presented here consists of interlocking solid wood base, but the structure is strengthened by two iron bands running across its four faces at the back, top, bottom, and front. Also made of iron are the carrying handle and the two locks with the double key. The curious feature of the object lies in this very detail: it requires the presence of both key holders to open it. The chest can acquire a function as a container for documents or precious objects and can be considered as a travel box or to be kept inside the home. It is uncommon to find similar specimens of small chests. Far easier to find safes of different sizes. A further rarity can be found in its beautiful quality. Italian origin is assumed from the choice of materials. It may be a Lombard, specifically Milanese, object that can be traced to the period between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. More than a decoration item, it can be considered a true collector's item.
