19th Century Lacquered Papier-Mache Tea Caddy

About the Item

A 19th Century Lacquered Papier Mache Tea Caddy of rectangular form with an ogee moulded edge and canted corners decorated with chinoiserie figures and bands of flowers. Standing on gilded lion paw feet 8 ins x 5 ins x 5 ins (20 cm x 13 cm x 13 cm). The interior fitted with two pewter caddies stamped and engraved with ornamentation.

  • Condition:
    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. The 'toes' on one of the feet have been broken off (see rear righthand corner picture), and the key is missing. The internal pewter caddies are made of very soft metal which dents and bends easily when handled.
