Very decorative Burmese tea tin
About the Item
This very decorative tea tin was made for the Burmese market with text in Chinese, English and Burmese. It was shipped from Amoy (now Xiamem) in China to be sold in the retail store in Rangoon (now Yangon). It appears to have lost the paper label to the lid, but the label around the body is in very good condition and reveals some wonderfully idiosyncratic health claims for the tea inside, which certainly wouldn't be allowed today. It stands 240 mm (9.5 inches) high and has a diameter of 235 mm (9.25 inches). It would date from the 1920's or 30's.
