Art Deco 3-Arm Candelabra Woman Figure E.G. Webster & Sons
About the Item
E.G. Webster and Sons silver plate candlestick has three arms with flower shaped bobeche. The stem is done in shape of a standing woman in elegant, flowing dress, standing on a rounded base and holding the central arm on a ball above her head with two gracefully curved arms spreading to the sides. The figure is exquisitely crafted with incredibly detailed clothes and hair and fascinating facial expression.
E.G. Webster and Sons was one of silver manufacturers in the New York region serving the burgeoning consumer society of the late 19th century. They specialized in fine silverplated and sterling silver utilitarian and decorative objects. As seen on Christie's auctions, some of their pieces were in collections of Rockefeller family. The firm operated from 1886 to 1928, when it was sold to International Silver Co.
The candelabra is signed on the base with maker's mark (capital W inside a star on spider web) and "Quadruple Plate 3405". The piece has a beautiful patina that is appropriate for the age.
