About the Item

"Candle stands are molded like a classic breath-taking painting with garland berries in a wreath. Since ancient Greece, berries have symbolized affluence, wealth, and bountiful harvests. These ormolu candle stands have depicted a woman reaching her arms above her head as if praying to the gods to grant a bountiful harvest. Featuring a square pedestal design and four sturdy stands with a touch of Empire style, Consulat (1800-1815) in the 19th century. The Empire style respects minimalist, rustic, unobtrusive lines and features a square base to accentuate the character's soft curves. The female character is aiming for a luxurious, classic beauty but not following the path. when candle holder sketches unbroken face curves and every curve of clothes. The candelabras and the motifs on the four sides of the black pedestal are made of gilt bronze in luxurious golden color. Ormolu is considered one of the classic candleholder crafting techniques in many countries. Above the woman made of ebony are 6 branches of gilt bronze lights like flower buds curled around with bay leaves. In addition to the berries garland pattern on the pedestal body that is visually pleasing to the eye, the highlight of these antique candles is the curved pattern resembling the Greek key motif. Even though it's just simple geometry that repeats around the base of the candle's ormolu, the Greek Key variation still feels nostalgic. Greek key blends the softness of femininity and the strength of masculinity, harmonizing minimalism and high aesthetics. Creativity can be clearly felt in these antique ormolu candlesticks borrowed from images, motifs, and patterns of the Roman and Greek empires during their most prosperous period. But the antique holder is still Empire style, Consulat shows simplicity but fashion with only two symmetrical black and gold colors. Empire style evokes Regency style in England, Biedermeier in Germany, or Federal style in the United State. It can be said that these ormolu candlestick really gives a vintage and nostalgic breath.".
