Pair of five-light candelabra, gilded bronze, France, circa 1820s

About the Item

Pair of finely chiseled five-light gilt bronze candlesticks depicting oriental figures standing elegantly on plinth bases decorated with plant motifs. The two figures, wearing traditional clothes of Mongolian culture, hold up a five-light candle holder richly decorated with floral and plant elements of both European and Oriental tastes. The gilding of the candlesticks is done by mercury in two finishes-polished and matte-and is still very bright and in good condition. France, First quarter of the 19th century Height: 67 cm
