Pair of French 1st Empire Period Bronze and Ormolu Three-Light Candelabras
About the Item
A high quality and stunning true pair of French 1st empire period, ca. 1810 patinated bronze and ormolu three light candelabras. Each candelabra is raised on a mottled square ormolu base. Above is a square bronze plinth decorated with ormolu trophies below an ormolu border with dolphins. An ormolu mottled support lays above the plinth, elevating the richly patinated bronze. One candelabra depicts a female figure and a male figure on the other. Each figure is dressed in classic attire with shells on their coats. Both are holding the ormolu stem leading to the candelabra. Above the stem are three richly chased swans with 'S' scrolled tail feathers, surrounding the ball shaped center. Above are the ormolu bobeches richly chased with leaves. While the stem is topped with a eternal flame finial that can be removed to enable a fourth candle to be displayed. Rich and wonderful patina, exquisite ormolu chasing and all original gilt throughout.
