About the Item

Rare pair of #101 triple candleholder by Tony Paul for Woodlin-Hall in black enameled iron. Tony Paul (1918-2009) was an American industrial designer who was active from the 1940s through the 1960s. He is best known for his innovative metal lighting and decorative objects, which were characterized by their sculptural forms and intricate patterns. His designs were often made of brass, copper, or chrome-plated steel, and incorporated elements such as cut-outs, perforations, and asymmetrical shapes. Paul worked for a number of companies throughout his career, including Raymor, Woodard Furniture, and Westinghouse. He also designed for the prestigious Mid-Century Modern retailer, the Mode Furniture Showroom in New York City. Today, his work is highly sought after by collectors of Mid-Century Modern design, and is represented in the collections of major museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
