About the Item

Swedish Modernist candelabra by Gunnar Ander. Produced by Ystad-Metall, located in the town of Ystad in Sweden. Candle-holder in solid, polished brass. Organic design of four stylised flowers which are placed on a stem in form of a wave and fixed on a base plate. It is signed beneath, including the stylised initials of the designer "GA" for Gunnar Ander. Gunnar Ander (1908–1976) was a Swedish artist and designer, known for his contributions to mid-century Scandinavian design. He studied architecture at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm but became famous for his work in glass and metal design. In the 1930s, he began collaborating with Lindshammar Glasbruk, where he produced elegant glassworks characterized by clean lines and organic shapes. Ander is best known for his colorful glass and wrought iron candelabras from the 1950s and 1960s, which exemplified Swedish modernism. He also created minimalist lamps and worked with ceramics and metal. His designs combined artistic beauty with practicality, making him a key figure in Swedish modern design. Today, his work is highly collectible, appreciated for its timeless elegance.
