About the Item

Peter Pepper Products Palos Verdes California Surfboard Candle Holders ca 1950s Fun and original set of four 1950s wall sconces manufactured by Peter Pepper Products in Palos Verdes, California, ca 1950s. The sconces are purple, orange, green and blue carved wood planks with removable wooden candle holders with a metal insert that attach to the planks via a rod that fits into a hole that is drilled into the plank. The back of each sconce retains its original label. Candle sconces are in original vintage condition with some minor flaking and wear to the wood boards and some fading to the paint as shown in the photos. As a start up in 1952, Peter Pepper’s legacy of design innovation was focused on accessory products, and as accessories have evolved into the ancillary product category, Peter Pepper in essence has continually developed ancillary solutions for all commercial environments. Peter Pepper Products got its start in the eponymous founder’s home base in the Los Angeles area with wife Jacquie Pepper, designing many of the wall art pieces. Peter Pepper was founded on an early recognition that taking the long view about what people need in their workplace would be a better strategy than merely responding to the current trends. Their rich portfolio of ancillary pieces has seen a boom in specifications and appreciation from designers contending with the rise and challenges of the evolving workplace. Peter’s background in design, engineering, photography, and sales were helpful when he recognized the need for a range of products that enriched environments through both their aesthetic influence and their functional performance. At the time, no one else was doing this in a deliberate way: looking at the big picture, paying attention to design, craftsmanship and product choice. In the late 1950’s, Peter Pepper transitioned his residential accessory line into the newly emerging contract furniture industry. Legacy products included Wall Sconce Candelabras, Wood and Bronze Sculptures, Wall Art, Geometric Wood and Aluminum Boxes, Occasional Tables, Walnut File and Letter Trays and more. As the company grew, Peter Pepper became known as ‘the source’ for contract accessories delivering the highest caliber of design and producing an inspired product line offering unparalleled selection. - Source: Peter Pepper Products

George Nelson for Howard Miller Small Cigar Bubble Lamp, ca 1950s This is an iconic bubble lamp designed by George Nelson, originally for the Howard Miller Clock Company. As you can see in the images this has the original sticker still attached to the metal frame. These were in original production from the 50s through the very early 70s before production was discontinued. Newer ones have been produced by various companies including Modernica, Gossamer and now the officially licensed lamps are produced by Herman Miller. These produce the most beautiful yellow glow when lit. Vintage ones throw a nicer light since the material has mellowed where newer ones will throw a white light. Bubble lamp pendant...
