About the Item

Turned Brass Candlestick with Drip Tray Origin: Probably Central Europe Material: Brass, turned and assembled Date: Early 19th century (c. 1800–1820) Description: A single-light candlestick made of turned brass, composed of several separately shaped and assembled elements. The bell-shaped base supports a baluster-form shaft, topped by a flat, slightly flared drip tray with fine concentric incised lines. The nozzle is cylindrical with a subtly profiled rim. All components are finely crafted and precisely fitted—hallmarks of skilled turning and assembly work from the early 19th century. Typical turning marks are visible on the underside. Interesting Facts: Candlesticks of this type were common throughout Central Europe in the early 19th century, particularly in southern Germany, Saxony, and Bohemia. Stylistically, they represent a transitional form between late Baroque and Biedermeier: The balanced proportions, restrained decoration, and clearly articulated construction reflect the classical ideals of the time. The presence of a functional drip tray also points to its practical use in everyday domestic settings. Condition: Well preserved with minor signs of use. Light surface scratches and early oxidation visible around the nozzle. Polished surface with natural age patina.
