Antique Italian Silver Gilt and Marble Candlesticks

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Italian silver and marble candlesticks, an addition to our continental silverware collection. These exceptional antique Italian silver candlesticks with marble have a tapering cylindrical form to a figural pedestal and oval base. The tapering capitals of these antique silver candlesticks are encircled with an applied moulded border to the upper rim. The capitals are supported by impressive cast silver gilt knopped columns encircled with leaf ornamentation and lobed designs. Each candlestick is further ornamented with an exceptional pedestal constructed of two bearded figures braced against each other and supporting the column on their shoulders. These candlesticks have exceptional oval marble bases with a silver moulded rim, all supported by four impressive cast Regency style claw feet. The surface of each candlestick retains the original gilding. The hallmarks struck to the underside of each candlestick includes: Silver quality/purity mark: 800 (800 standard, 800/1000). Maker's registration:224, MI (DE VECCHI PIETRO e CATTANEO PRIMO, Milano) Condition These antique Italian silver candlesticks with marble are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is all very sharp. The marble bases are in perfect condition. The Italian hallmarks struck to the underside of each base have wear in keeping with age and location; the maker has been identified as a strong possibility from the legibility of the registration mark. A fine and impressive, pair of antique George VI English sterling silver candlesticks; part of our ornamental silverware collection. These impressive antique 1930s English sterling silver candlesticks have a plain subtly tapering columnar form. The impressive Corinthian capital of each retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit sconce ornamented with embossed bead decoration to the rim. The subtly tapering panelled columns are supported by a circular boss to a square swept foot. The base of each candlestick is embellished with a band of embossed floral rosette and bud garlands, flanked with bead decorated borders. Both candlesticks have weighted bases and are fitted with green baize to the underside.
