About the Item
A pair of Australian copper and brass candlestick holders made by Soho Foundry of Sovereign Hill, Ballarat, Victoria, circa 1970. Decoratively turned central columns support a simple capital and wax pan, with a water-rippled beveled base. The bases are marked "Soho Foundry. Sovereign Hill Ballarat."
The Soho Foundry in Ballarat was established around about 1856 by Robinson, Thomas & Co. The Soho Works employed iron and brass founders, boiler makers, pattern makers and engineers, and was involved in repairing cast iron machinery and engines. Today a new Soho Foundry in the same location has metal-spinning and wood-turning artisans.
