About the Item
A rare and highly collectible pair of Danish Arts and Crafts candlesticks, Model B12, designed by Mogens Ballin in the early 1900s. Crafted in solid bronze, these candlesticks exemplify the refined craftsmanship and elegant simplicity characteristic of Ballin’s work.
Both candlesticks bear the MB monogram, dating them to before 1907, the year Ballin transferred ownership of his workshop, which was then renamed Hertz & Ballin. The presence of the MB stamp, rather than the later HB mark, makes this pair particularly sought after among collectors. Additionally, both candlesticks are stamped B12, confirming their material as bronze.
The removable candleholder tops allow for easy cleaning, a thoughtful design element that enhances both functionality and longevity.
This exact model is documented in “Mogens Ballin Værksted”, published by Vejen Kunstmuseum in 2010, coinciding with their Mogens Ballin retrospective exhibition. The candlesticks can be found on page 177 of the publication, further solidifying their authenticity and historical significance.
