Four Enameled and Gilded Brass Candle Sticks

About the Item

The simply formed gilded brass candlesticks are colorful decorated in enamels in red, black and blue. This age old traditional of enameling is taught and preserved by extremely skilled craftsmen. The process of vitreous enamels was developed by the Venetian and north Italian between 1450 and 1500 and was initially applied on gold, then silver, copper, bronze. Vitreous enamel, by fusing powdered glass fired, usually between 750 and 850 °C. The powder becomes liquid, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating. The word comes from the Latin vitreum, meaning "glass".
