George II Cast Taperstick Made in London by Thomas Mason, 1731

About the Item

A Very Fine Early George II Cast Taperstick Made in London in 1731 by Thomas Mason The Taperstick is cast and displays a stepped hexagonal base decorated with reeding. The circular central well rises to a baluster shaped stem, also decorated with reeded bands. The Taperstick is very well marked in the base and is also engraved with a set of contemporary script initials. It would appear that Thomas Mason specialised in the production of Candle and Tapersticks and he was apprentice to Robert Timbrell, also a candlestick maker. This piece is in excellent condition and has a very good colour. Additional information: Height: 4.25 inches, 10.63 cm. Base Diameter: 3.1 inches, 7.75 cm.
