George II Chamber Candlestick Made in Edinburgh by Edward Lothian, 1745
About the Item
An Extremely Rare George II Chamber Candlestick Made in Edinburgh in 1745 by Edward Lothian, Assay Master Hugh Gordon.
The Chamberstick stands on three unusual cast bun feet and has a circular base with raised rim, decorated with reeding. The central baluster socket is decorated with reeding and rises to a flared fixed nozzle. This piece has a scroll side handle and is fully marked on the sunken well. The underside is engraved with a set of presentation initials, WR TO ME. This piece is in excellent condition and has a good weight. Candle related silver is very rare from Scotland at this date and this is only the second Scottish Chamberstick we have offered over the years.
