About the Item

A bronze candle holder with verdigris patina. Designed by Maurice Ascalon and produced by Pal-Bell, Tel Aviv, Israel, 1939-1956. Good condition. Slightly askew. Some wear to the patination. Stamped with makers mark. Pal-Bell Company was founded in Tel-Aviv by designer Maurice Ascalon. The company produced bronze and brass decorative art pieces from 1939 to 1956. Considered the father of the modern Israeli decorative art movement, Maurice Ascalon introduced the chemical process of creating the green patina known as “verdigris”, which has become a stylistic signature of Israeli metalwork. Maurice Ascalon was an Israeli designer and sculptor. He was, by some accounts, considered the father of the modern Israeli decorative arts movement. Maurice Ascalon was born as Moshe Klein in eastern Hungary.
