Louis XV-style desk set composed of a gilt and patinated bronze inkstand and two matching candlesticks. The inkstand is embellished with gadrooned leaves, scrollwork, and Rocaille and topped with a cupid wearing a sash. He is holding a paper in one hand and a bouquet of flowers in the other. An inkwell is set in the center of the lively base. Each candlestick is decorated with asymmetrical foliage, giving it a sense of movement that is dominated by curves and counter curves. Napoleon III period. Inkstand dimensions: L 6.3 in (16 cm), W 4.7 in (12 cm), H 7.1 in (18 cm). Candlestick dimensions: L 3.3 in (8.5 cm), W 3.3 in (8.5 cm), H 5.3 in (13.5 cm). circa 1860.
