Pair of George III sterling silver candlesticks. Made by John Scofield in London in 1790. Each: Tapering socket with detachable bobeche mounted to tapering and knopped columnar shaft with raised leaf-and-dart ornament on shoulder; raised foot. Fluting and beading. Coronet and monogram engraved on bobeche and foot. Super stylish Neoclassicism by a desirable Georgian silversmith. Formerly in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Fully marked. Total weight: 30.7 troy ounces.
