About the Item
Set of four (4), sterling silver, Georgian (George II)-style candlesticks, made in the city of Sheffield, England, year-hallmarked for 1885, James Kebberling Bembridge (of Hawkesworth, Eyre and Co., Ltd.) - maker. Please note - the JKB maker's mark in the maker's hallmark is that of J.K. Bembridge, who joined Hawkesworth and Eyre as a boy, and who was also Managing Director of the firm for 22 years at the time of his death in 1892 (See Volume I of The Directory of Gold and Silversmiths: 1838-1914 by John Culme, p. 222, under the Company name of Hawkesworth, Eyre, and Co., Ltd.). Each candlestick measures over 7 1/4 inches high x 4 inches wide (at widest point) x 4 inches deep (at deepest point). All four candlesticks are weighted, and the bottom of each candlestick is covered with green felt. Each candlestick shows some wear on some of its high points (see photos) that is commensurate with age and use. In good antique condition. The set will make a lovely addition to any home.
