About the Item

Set of two Scandinavian Modern “Pitsi” copper candlesticks by Pentti Sarpaneva for Turun Hopea, Finland, 1960s A beautiful set of two Mid-Century Modern copper candlesticks from the “Pitsi” (Lace) series, designed by Pentti Sarpaneva for Turun Hopea, Finland, circa 1960s. Each candlestick features Sarpaneva’s signature pitsi filigree pattern — a refined, lace-like openwork that gives the pieces both lightness and sculptural depth. The warm copper tone, combined with the intricate detailing, reflects the very best of Finnish modernist design from this era. The set includes: Two candlesticks: H 17 cm x D 9 cm (6.7 in x 3.5 in) These pieces work beautifully as a table centerpiece, on a sideboard, or displayed as sculptural decor. Their timeless design fits seamlessly in both modern interiors and eclectic vintage settings. Designer Pentti Sarpaneva (1925–1978) was one of Finland’s leading postwar designers, celebrated for his bold and organic approach to jewelry, metalwork, and glass. His designs often drew inspiration from Finnish folklore and natural textures, translated into modern forms. Sarpaneva’s work for Turun Hopea and Kalevala Koru is highly collectible and admired for its craftsmanship and distinctive style. Manufacturer Turun Hopea (Turku Silver), founded in Turku, Finland, was known for its collaboration with top Finnish designers during the 1960s and 1970s. The firm produced exceptional Scandinavian silver and copper objects, combining traditional techniques with innovative modernist design. Condition Excellent vintage condition with light surface patina consistent with age and use. A fine example of Finnish Modernist craftsmanship, this Pitsi candlestick set embodies the elegance and creativity that define Scandinavian design. Both candlesticks have been engraved with the initials EJ, the date 23.1.'75 and P. Sarpaneva Set number 3 The candlesticks will be shipped insured overseas. Cost of transport to the US is Euro 125. Wear consistent with age and use. Colors may slightly vary due to photographic lighting sources or your monitor settings.
