Williamsburg Reproductions, Stieff, Royal Leerdam Hurricane / Pewter Candlestick
About the Item
Williamsburg Reproductions, Craft House in Williamsburg, Virginia sold high quality reproductions of antiques belonging to the foundation to raise funds for restorations at Colonial Williamsburg. Royal Leerdam crafted the hurricane shades and Stieff crafted the pewter collection to be sold at the Craft House.
Three pieces from this collection are:
9 ½ inch tall crystal rolled edge hurricane shade manufactured by Royal Leerdam in Leerdam, Holland. The shade was based on a design which was used in the second floor of the governors mansion. Model number cw 8.
3 ¼ inch tall pewter candlestick manufactured by Stieff Company in Baltimore, Maryland. The candlestick is a copy from one of a pair of English antiques that date from about 1690. It would have been used to melt sealing wax. The model number is cw 47.
5 ¼ inch wide pewter plate manufactured by Stieff Company in Baltimore, Maryland. At the time pewter was highly prized by the colonists and was imported from England. The model number is cw 76.
The hurricane shade is unmarked, the candlestick and plate have manufacturers mark and Colonial Williamsburg Foundation marks. The three pieces are probably from around the early 1970’s and have been discontinued. All the information for the pieces is from vintage Williamsburg Reproduction catalogs.
