Pair of Regency Cut-Glass and Gilt-Metal Two Light Candelabras, circa 1815

About the Item

Of British origin, circa 1815, and of Regency design, the bronze platform support, with foliate and flower head ornamented bracket feet, below a collar of leaves, support a central column. The foliate scrolled arms have flower head ornamentation with snakes. The mounts support a circular ribbed vase which form glass candle holders with brass inserts above curved rims, supporting glass crystal buttons and icicles. The bronze body is completely original and in excellent condition, and most of the crystals are indigenous to the candelabras, albeit, several of the buttons are period replacements, as would be probable considering the multiplicity of loosley fastened glass attachments. There are 14 arms and icicles on each light, albeit, one of the lights has 13 arms and icicles. (See Sotheby's description as indicated below under provenance). Dimensions: height 12" high x 5" deep x 13" wide Provenance: Lot #159 Sotheby's New York April 24, 2008 "Tom Devenish: The Collection" Sale "Highy Important English Furniture".
