Rare 1965 Men’s Accutron 214 Spaceview M5 Openwork/Skeleton Wristwatch by Bulova
About the Item
The 1965 Men's Accutron 214 Spaceview Openwork Wristwatch was a revolutionary timepiece featuring cutting-edge tuning fork technology, setting a new standard for accuracy in the industry by Bulova watches.
The Spaceview wristwatch was never intended for the public marketplace. Originally made an openwork skeleton watch for jewelers and watch sellers to show off the revolutionary electronic tuning fork movement to prospective buyers in shops. After being displayed in-store customers immediately began to request these display models for purchase, so Bulova added an hour-and-minute track for customers to be able to read the time for purchase. Without realizing it Joseph Bulova had created an absolute sensation, so the "space view" was born!
Its open design showcased the mesmerizing movement, captivating watch enthusiasts with its intricate inner workings. Combining precision and elegance, the Spaceview Wristwatch became an iconic symbol of innovation and style, cementing its place in horological history, and is an early customer-made Skeleton watch.
The original Accutron watch may be the most iconic timepiece ever produced by Bulova, but the company has a history that long predates it. The company was originally founded in New York City, by Joseph Bulova in 1875. Manufacturing and assembly took place in both Switzerland and New York, and Bulova was a constant innovator in both watchmaking and marketing.

A Miniature Skeleton Mantel Clock By Victor Athanase Pierret
By Victor Athanase Pierret
Located in Amersham, GB
A miniature French skeleton clock with silk suspension and eight day movement, dating from the mid 19th century, with original glass dome on an ebonised and brass inlayed base with enamel dial.
This clock was made by Victor Athanase Pierret whose distinctive VAP mark in an oval is stamped on the base of this clock. He exhibited a small skeleton alarm at the 1851 Great exhibition at Crystal Palace of which this may well be a version.
Victor-Athanase Pierret (1806 - 1893)
Victor-Athanse Pierret was born 1806 in Bucy-les-Pierrepont. He began his five year apprenticeship with Rolin at the age of 13. Later he moved to Paris and settled in the Rue des Bons-Enfants no. 21 when he was 24. Pierret created pendulum clocks with and without calender indicator, cases for ship’s chronometers, chronometer escapements with temperature compensation and night light clocks with pendulum. At the London Exhibition of 1851 he presented an alarm clock and a pendulum clock with a globe. In 1853 Pierret applied for a patent for a new date indication device, in 1855 he patented an 8-day power reserve movement.
