Antique George III Flame Mahogany Serpentine Sideboard, 18th Century

This is a superb antique George III inlaid flame mahogany serpentine sideboard, circa 1790 in date. With wood banding and marquetry spandrels, the central frieze drawer flanked by deep drawers, the right side drawer with divisions for bottles. The drawers fitted with the original and beautiful ormolu lion's head ring handles. It is raised on elegant square tapering legs on spade feet and is complete with working locks and key. Add an elegant touch to a special place in your home with this superb antique serpentine shaped sideboard. The botanical name for the mahogany this item is made of is Swietenia macrophylla and this type of mahogany is not subject to CITES regulation. Provenance: Major Edward Croft-Murray, Perivale, Ryde, Isle of Wight. From the collection of Edward Croft-Murray CBE (1907-1980). This is a lovely antique French ormolu, gilt bronze, mantel clock with Bleu Celeste Sevres porcelain panels, by the renowned maker, Raingo Freres, Paris, circa 1850 in date. The clock features a beautifully cast pair of ormolu cherubs surmounted with game, to include fish, boar and pheasant, above a circular enamel dial with Arabic and Roman numerals. The dial is flanked by porcelain panels with gilt highlights, depicting playful cherubs. The clock has an 8 day striking movement and is complete with pendulum, bell and key. This incredible clock is a must have for any collector of ornamental and decorative pieces. Condition: The clock is in really excellent working condition the movement having been cleaned and serviced by our horologist, and the ormolu case having been polished, please see photos for confirmation.
