About the Item

This is a stunning antique late 18th century flame mahogany 8 day English longcase clock by William Pridgin of Hull. The arched brass and silvered dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and Rococo scroll cast spandrels, with an eight day four pillar movement striking on a bell, in a beautiful inlaid flame mahogany case raised on bracket feet. It chimes on the hour and quarter hours, with two weights, brass pendulum and winding key. The beautiful flame mahogany and inlaid case is a treat to behold and the clock is in perfect working order. Add a touch of elegance to your home with this exquisite longcase clock. Condition: In excellent condition the movement and case having been beautifully restored in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Restoration: Movement dismantled and all parts examined and tested. All detents and pivots re-ground and polished. Bearings supplied and fitted. All steel and brass components cleaned, buffed and burnished. Escapement dismantled, cleaned, synchronised and set. Movement regulated. Case cleaned and polished. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. Antique George III Flame Mahogany Serpentine Sideboard, 18th Century

This is a superb antique George III inlaid flame mahogany serpentine sideboard, circa 1790 in date. With wood banding and marquetry spandrels, the central frieze drawer flanked by deep drawers, the right side drawer with divisions for bottles. The drawers fitted with the original and beautiful ormolu lion's head ring handles. It is raised on elegant square tapering legs on spade feet and is complete with working locks and key. Add an elegant touch to a special place in your home with this superb antique serpentine shaped sideboard. The botanical name for the mahogany this item is made of is Swietenia macrophylla and this type of mahogany is not subject to CITES regulation.
