18th Century Grandfather Clock "Liverpool Made Case" from the George III Times

About the Item

18th Century Grandfather Clock "Liverpool Made Case" from the George III Times The case is a traditional Liverpool made one, as Liverpool cases of that period are probably the finest Grandfather Clocks cases ever made. Both the door and the clock face are flanked by small columns. The upper section is finished with a split pediment, which is decorated with openwork ornamentation. Furthermore, the metal clock face with an hour dial and a moon dial above is placed on a metal panel, which is closed by an arch. The clock strikes full hours and halves. Inside the mechanism, there is a hand-written signature made with a stylus and a notation regarding renovation of the clock carried in 1924. The case is after renovation, finished in French polish. The mechanism is functional and has undergone a horological service. The weights are new. More information about the clock you can find in the book "SOME THOUGHTS ON GRANDFATHER CLOCKS" by Vincent Flannery
