About the Item

This is a very Fine walnut longcase clock dated circa 1740-50 by John Coates of London which is is outstanding condition The 12 inch arched brass dial with finely matted centre , subsidiary seconds and date aperture is signed by the maker on a cartouche in the arch.The Fine quality five pillar 8 day duration high quality London movement has rack striking and strikes the hours on a bell is in original condition and although functioning well it will be fully and professionally serviced by Overton Clocks of Chesterfield prior to sale. A nice feature is that the clock retains its original brass cased weights. The magnificent case is constructed from oak and veneered in the finest burr walnut which has developed a wonderful colour over the years. Short grain mouldings have been extensively used and the arched topped hood has brass filled reeded pillars to the hood and arched glass to the sides so that the movement can be seen. As can seen in photographs this clock is in superb condition throughout and will delight the most discerning buyer.
