French Tall Case Clock or Horloge de Parquet

$6,500

About

An early 19th century French horloge de parquet, or tall clock, from Normandy. The case is made of solid oak and is in three parts, tapering down at the base and with brass pendulum visible through circular glass window. Unusual construction, with hinged louvered side access doors at the top. The enamel clock face has hand-painted Roman numerals and the name of the clockmaker, Poret and the town, Bolbec. Decorative cast brass surround with a rooster atop a fleur de lis coat of arms. Original seven day Morbier movement, strikes on the hour and once on the half. Professionally cleaned and in working order. Original glass panes. Waxed patina. In good condition, with fine cracks and abrasions to the enamel face. Please refer to photos for more details.
