Froxfield Clock, Oak

About the Item

The Froxfield clock in natural Oak. A unique limited edition floor clock created by Comitti designer Edmund Barker using selected timbers and contemporary styling. The design is inspired by his time as an apprentice at the renowned Edward Barnsley Workshop in Froxfield. The bell strike movement and grained nickel silver accessories are revealed and protected by a mineral glass on all sides. Superb handmade and finished cabinet work. The movement is made by Kieninger in Germany - they make the best quality traditional mechanical movements today. Hand assembled 8-day bell strike movement with silencer. Automatic night silencer (10.00 PM to 7.15 AM) and strike sequence correction. Strikes the time on the hour and the passing of the half hour. Sunburst dial in matching veneers with baton hour indicators and contemporary hands. Handmade and finished cabinet with door access to the plinth. Mineral glass front door and mounted to the side panels. Matching grained nickel silver furniture. Adjustable feet and wall fixing. Numbered limited edition of 25 pieces with the Designers Mark and Certificate of Authenticity. Onarato Comitti travelled to London from the Lake Como area of northern Italy. He was a skilled instrument maker with a heritage that can be traced back to Evangelista Torricelli, a student of Galileo, who made the first mercurial barometer in 1643. He sought his fortune in the most advanced industrial nation in the world and established his workshops in Clerkenwell, the centre for instrument and clock making in London. More than 170 years later, Comitti is still a family-owned business, run by the fifth generation, which remains true to the founding principles of Onorato Comitti and continues to maintain the company's international reputation for luxury timepieces in the finest traditions of English clock making.
