About the Item

George III Era Longcase Clock – 18th Century his elegant 18th-century George III longcase clock is a true masterpiece of period craftsmanship, dating to the first half of the 1700s. Housed in a beautifully restored mahogany case finished with a rich French polish, the clock features classic architectural details that reflect the refined taste of its era. The hood and door are framed by slender columns, while the top is crowned with a distinctive broken swan-neck pediment adorned with scroll-shaped volutes and intricate openwork decorations. The arched dial is fitted with a silvered chapter ring engraved with Roman numerals and features a charming moon phase dial nestled beneath the arch. Inside, the original mechanical movement is in excellent working order, striking the full hours and half-hours. It has been professionally serviced by a horologist, fitted with new weights, and bears a hand-engraved signature along with a handwritten note referencing a restoration carried out in 1924—adding to its historical authenticity. This antique grandfather clock is not only a functional timepiece but also a sophisticated statement piece that brings timeless character to any interior. Whether placed in a formal living room, hallway, or study, it offers both aesthetic elegance and heirloom quality, making it a valuable addition to any collection or home.
