A museum-worthy Art Nouveau masterpiece: a monumental terracotta clock by renowned Austrian manufacturer Friedrich Goldscheider (serial number 2808). This exceptional piece features a captivating scene of a gentleman admiring the three Muses - Melete (Study), Mneme (Memory), and Aoide (Song) - all hand-crafted and cold-painted in stunning detail. The clock also functions as a lamp, showcasing Goldscheider's innovative design. In good condition with minor wear consistent with age (circa 1887). This rare and important sculptural vase is a true collector's dream and a wonderful example of Viennese secessionist art. Signature and serial number 2808, 5. Stamp Friedrich Goldscheider Wien This is an important sculptural vase, a wonderful example of Viennese secessionist art and a rare piece The Goldscheider factory was founded in 1885 in Vienna by Friedrich Goldscheider and soon became the leading terracotta, faience and bronze manufacturer in Austria. Famous for creating masterpieces of historical revivalism, Goldscheider took part in the Universal Exhibition in Barcelona in 1888 and in Paris in 1889. His manufacture worked with many artists and ceramists including Adolphe-Jean Lavergne. The family emigrated to America and Britain in 1938.
