Grandfather Clock

About the Item

Grandfather Clock, Isaac Hewlett, Bristol. A fine quality Bristol longcase clock with 12-inch square brass dial with black Roman and Arabic numerals, day of the month, inscribed ''Isaac Hewlett, Bristol", all cornered with cast and pierced foliate spandrels. It has a quality veneered case with a elegant square top supported by turned columns and a glass door to the hood with a long rectangular door to the trunk, raised on a plinth base. Isaac Hewlett was apprenticed to his father Andrew from 1741 to 1748 . From 1747 to 1755 he maintained the church clock at St Mary Redcliffe. He died in 1780. The face is crafted of chased silver in a foliate motif with fully hallmarked numerals by London silversmith James Stedstone Gouldsmith.
