About the Item

A huge Illuminated Advertising clock by Gensign We are proud to offer a rare and remarkable double-sided ironmongers advertising Gensign Clock. The face and advertising panels are reverse painted glass, the clock retains its original hands and twin hanging brackets. All original paint, untouched in form with period repairs and working double sided opening doors to access the clock movement. This iconic Gensign clocks was made to order in small numbers specifically to promote the stores they were placed outside. The clock hung for better part of a century outside “Streets Ironmongery” in Havent, midway between Portsmouth and Chichester. Reclaimed when they finally closed in 2017. The shop can be seen in the photos provided. A rare survivor that can be illuminated with a 240v UK mains power source. A new battery-operated quarts mechanism in place however the original moments still available as part of this sale. This item is a true showstopper and centre piece for any cool interior space. Approx. in inches: H 43” x W 33” x D 17” Origin: England Period: Early 20th century Material: Cast metal and glass face Condition: This item is completely solid in structure and form. Wear is present through fading of surface, scuffs, and aged scratches showing rust. One side of the clock face shows an aged grey worn effect (pictured) which we prefer decoratively. The has are also worn, the with all surfaces externally. The glass is firmly in place and this item has no moving or fragile sections. The mechanism is new which works both clocks by AA batteries, the light fitting is 240v UK power source. Its exceedingly difficult to photograph all the areas in this piece therefore we strongly suggest reviewing all the photos provided as part of this advert and propose questions where sections are unclear to avoid disappointment.
