About

A finely crafted standing long case or "Régulateur de Parquet" clock in Louis XVI style. With its decorative wood grain veneer and sumptuous gilt bronze detailing, this example follows the luxurious clock case designs created in the 18th century by French cabinetmaker Balthazar Lieutaud. Though unsigned, this clock is very similar to "Lieutaud-revival" long case clocks produced by Francois Linke in France during the mid to late 19th century. Smaller in stature than the well-known "grandfather," the clock is nicely proportioned and could fit a number of interior design styles. It appears that the movement was replaced at some point in the past with a turn of the century German Schlenker & Kienzle mechanism (markings denote German Patent No. 125605, which was issued to Schlenker & Kienzle in 1901. It was a supplement to Patent No. 112316 dated 6th August 1899. Both patents dealt with the strike mechanism.) The exterior of the case is in overall very good condition, the interior has been slightly modified to house the S&K movement. A label in the interior shows the clock being serviced or repaired by J.G. Girod of Madrid in 1955. The clock is working well, and will be checked by our specialist before shipment to assure proper function and accuracy.
