About the Item

This vintage 19th century marble & dore' bronze clock set is beautifully designed in a Louis XVI motif. The clock features a decorative hand painted round enamel face with Arabic numerals, enclosed behind a hinged glass door. Clock works are within a cylindrical bronze casing that is mounted & centered between two sculpted white marble "shelves". Stylish white marble columns rise from a footed Marble platform & support these "shelves". The columns & clock are embellished with decorative urn finials accented with garlands of flowers. The enamel face has a worn signature of the retailer's name, but also, has the legible address, 19 Bd St Denis Paris (19 Boulevard St. Denis). Boulevard St. Denis was a center for clockmakers in the late 19th century. The movement of the clock is stamped with an impressed shield bearing interlocking letters CM, centered between letters V & B. A raised circular shield with a star identifies a prolific maker called A D Mougin in Paris around 1895. There is a key wind movement with a French bell & a star burst pendulum with a deity face. The clock has a key, but it is not running & is sold as is. It will require a cleaning &/or service to tell accurate time.

A luxurious French Louis XVI style gilt bronze ormolu and alabaster (onyx-marble) three piece mantle clock and garniture set, possibly attributed to Raingo Freres. The fine quality antique originating in France in the late 19th century, exquisite Parisian work, exceptionally executed in opulent, elegant, and sophisticated King Louis XVI style, timeless neoclassical taste, comprising: classical architectural case mantel clock, having pointed bronze doré finial, flanked by scrolled foliates and lyre motifs, fancy enamel dial with Arabic numerals, inscribed F. Lapointe, Paris, eight-day time-and-strike movement signed Samuel Marti 1900 (Paris, 1870-1890), original Apollo mask sun-burst pendulum hanging below clock drum, flanked by matched pair of two arm candlestick garnitures, each with matching scrolled foliates and lyre finial, tapering column support with two candle nozzles, rising on stepped molded base, terminating in patinated brass disc feet. Markings: Pendulum stamped "R" "1721" ormolu on clock & garnitures stamped "1321"; possibly attributed to R. Freres / Raingo Freres. Dial signed by French enameller "F. Lapointe, Paris" Movement stamped by the firm of well-known French clockmaker Samuel Marti et Cie, Paris, second half of 19th century.
