Black Chinoiserie Georgian Style Chiming English Mantel Clock, circa 1900

About the Item

A fine English black chinoiserie Georgian style break arch mantel clock with profusely decorated case with scenes of pagodas, garden scenes and a rare front panel of four ladies sat around a table playing a game - possibly mahjong whilst others watch. Front pillasters with Chinese calligraphy. The two train French Japy Freres movement stamped 'Made in France' with serial number 40705 striking the hours and half hours on a gong. The decoration to the case of this clock is one of the finest that we have handled and is really good condition. These Chinoiserie decorated clocks are extremely popular with our clients as their decorative value means they look great in a contemporary or traditional room. This clock is currently priced very competitively for a clock of such fine quality.

A stunning 19th century Victorian mahogany cased Georgian style clock of compact proportions. The lantern topped case with decorative brass sound frets to the sides backed with red silk, brass vertical inserts to the front pillars and inserts to the top of the front door.
