Empire Bronze and Sienna Marble Clock with a bust of Apollo Belvedere

About the Item

A fine example of a French Empire period mantle clock, circa 1830. The rectangular stepped case is made of yellow Sienna marble and is decorated on the top and bottom with patinated bronze. Atop the clock case sits a very well chased patinated bronze head of the Apollo Belvedere after the marble original marble in the Vatican Museum in Rome. The patinated bronze dial with its original glass cover has a central gilded bronze ornament. The eight day movement has a silk string suspension system and rings the hours and halfs on a bell. An identical clock could be seen on a console in the Queen's private dining room in the Netflix series "The Crown"
