Empire Period Mantle Clock by Leroy a Paris

About the Item

This mantle clock is by a well-respected Paris maker in a fashionable style. The oval base supports a vase shaped clock case in turn supported by winged dolphin heads and flanked by stylised fountains. The top of the clock is modeled as a young woman seated on a half-shell; she is probably Josephine, Napoleon's sister. The shell is on a base simulating a calm sea. The dial has Roman numerals, the base is applied with ormolu mounts.
