About the Item
Empire period portico clock in white marble and gilt bronze, 19th century
This Empire period clock (circa 1800-1810) is composed of a marble terrace topped by two flat columns decorated with a frieze of acanthus leaves in gilt bronze and doubled at the back by two rounded columns also highlighted with twists in gilt bronze. The capital which surmounts this architecture is enhanced by two cornucopias in chiseled gilt bronze which meet above the dial.
A triangular pediment in blue Turquin marble which crowns the whole is decorated by two palmettes with in the center a gorgon's head in gilt bronze.
The white enamel dial circled in gilt bronze is decorated with finely chiseled gilt hands. A majestic drapery unfolds under the dial and the pendulum in the shape of a radiant solar disk completes the composition. The hours are indicated in black Roman numerals, the mechanism also indicates the days.
Wire movement in perfect working order, the clock comes with its key.
