English Regency Neo Classical mantel clock of Aristaeus
About the Item
A fine English Regency mantel clock.
To one side is the figure of Aristaeus, leaning against the clock housing. Aristaeus, the son of the Gods Apollo and Cyrene, and was the God and patron of many rural arts and was the mythological culture hero credited with the discovery of many rural arts including bee-keeping. Outstanding quality English, flat bottomed, 8 day fusee movement with original chain, and fine, clear dial with roman numerals, with the quarters marked in arabic numerals. Atop the clock is an ormolu mount of a bee, whilst to the bottom, front of the case, a further ormolu mount depicts cupid as riding a lion, whilst to the side is a classically dressed woman dancing. White carrera marble base, with a patinated bronze case housing the movement.
