About the Item

A superb quality and rare antique George III/English Regency neoclassical mantel clock by Thomas Weekes but signed as a conceit "Semaine a Paris". The beautifully elegant clock in white statuary marble, antique vert marble, ormolu and patinated bronze. The fire/mercury ormolu mounts of exceptional quality with the gilding mint and original. Fine toupee feet support the clock with diamond shaped mounts to each side enclosing a fine ormolu female mask. The top surmounted by an ormolu classical woman filling an oil lamp surrounded by four flaming torch finials. The fine white convex dial with gold Roman numerals is enclosed by an ormolu bezel and having finely chased Louis XVI style ormolu hands and signed below the winding hole "Semaine a Paris" (. Weeks sic). The 8 day English fuse timepiece movement beautifully made and having its original fuse chain. It also has a fine counterbalanced blued steel sweep second hand. It also illustrates Weekes's patented escapement on the backplate of the movement. Thomas Weekes was the owner of the Weekes Museum in Titchbourne Street and is famous for the fine and diverse objects d'art he sold from there drawing on the finest English and French craftsmanship and design.
