About the Item
Horlogerie Paris French Belgian black slate visible escapement mantle clock with malachite inlay, circa 1880. An exquisite showpiece with French eight-day movement reflecting the high standards of quality associated with Parisian clock making. It features a pendulum driven open Brocot escapement which shows the wheel and pallet movement visible on the front of the dial and white enamel chapter ring with Roman numerals and Brequet hands behind a hinged, gilt framed beveled glass panel, striking on the hour and half hour. The case has a stately symmetrical form incised with delicate scrolled gilt floral decoration and brilliant geometric malachite inlays, raised on a stepped base. Stamped "Horlogerie Paris" with a central "J," artisan stamp, hand scribed initials "JFK" with descriptive numbers and "2147" on movement backplate. Complete with original pendulum and key.
