French gilt bronze pendulum allegory Astronomy, astrolabe ormolu. Empire.

About the Item

Antica pendola francese rappresentante l'allegoria dell'Astronomia con cassa in bronzo dorato e globo celeste blu. Various elements recall the theme of astronomy: seated intent on studying the celestial globe we find the winged god of the stars Astreo, lower down a telescope, an astrolabe, and, below the dial, a low relief representing the god of sleep Hypnos, as well as the two moths, nocturnal animals, decorating the part above the dial. White enamel dial with Roman numerals. Golden hands. Gilt brass movement with hour and half-hour chime on bell and "brocot" suspension. Weekly charge. Anonymous. Empire era, early 19th century.
